Happy employees enjoying a positive workplace culture

Numbers Tell the Story

The technology sector is on the up according to a recent survey conducted by Computerworld. Most IT professionals are more positive about their profession and figures show that salaries and computing jobs are on the rise.

Optimism Abounds

Just over a third (1,430) of the 4,251 participants in the survey, revealed that they were optimistic about their IT career paths and future salary advancement prospects. Pay increases over the last three years, although modest at an average of 2.3%, plus a rise to 0.9% in bonuses payments, have resulted in a change of attitude.

The tailing off of restricted budgets, layoffs, hiring freezes and cancelled projects have helped greatly, and with close to 60% of respondents receiving a raise this year, it’s not surprising the mood is positive.

Increased Demand

Currently there’s an increased demand in the job market for IT support jobs, computer jobs, IT sales jobs and web developer jobs, and it’s predicted that computing jobs will reach a figure as high as 150,000 each year for the next eight years.

In order to attract suitable candidates and retain talented employees, employers are having to provide greater perks than in recent years, as well as accommodate working from home and more flexible hours.

Employers are looking for candidates with specific qualifications such Cisco, Cisco networking certifications, Oracle development experience, firewalls, Android development, Java, iOS and other enterprise security specialities. That being said, candidates with an all-round range of IT skills are still landing lucrative jobs, as employers attempt to get the most out of their investment.

More job offers are being made and candidates can be more selective. The number of employed IT staff has increased in order to keep up with new business growth.

It seems that many companies are now able to start matching salary growth with their own business growth. So as technology jobs become more in demand as more advancements are made, it’s good news all round for those working in the IT industry.
